Liveaboard Dive Trip – Two Morning Dives (number 5 and 6) – September 14, 2012

I was anticipating the wakeup call coming way too early, however I was up about 20 minutes before just laying there waiting for them to come knock. After laying for another minute or two we got up and went down for some tea before the first dive. I wasn’t expecting much but the tea they have onboard is pretty good – some sort of rose mixture. After about half of the cup was gone we went to the dive brief. I’m impressed with how detailed Sam is during the briefs and answers a few questions from the crowd.  This was out last dive at the Whale before moving on to Flynn.

The basic idea for this dive was to circle the Whale and then to head back to an area we were at yesterday. We missed the turn though and ended up circling the entire thing and ended the dive a bit earlier than we had been time-wise but air-wise we were spot on.  It was the longest we’d been down near 18m and it drained our air faster than we were used to.

After drying off we were greeted with bacon and eggs – with some other things as well. The food was great and I went back for seconds of bacon. The idea is we get a serving – then the crew goes – then we get to eat the rest.  If there is any left they feed the fish. After relaxing for a bit it was time for the second dive of the day.  During breakfast we’d moved to Flynn – the Tennis Court. Sam got pretty excited about Flynn and remarked it’s likely one of the best reefs out here to go to. He gave us the basic directions and what to look out for and just as before Lora and I made mental notes.

We went to get geared up and jumped in.  Once we got to the bottom we were immediately lost – we weren’t seeing what we expected to see and our first direction was a guess – a wrong guess. We corrected pretty shortly into it and made our way still not 100% sure if we were going the right way or not. We ended up meeting up with a few other divers and either we both messed up or we wound up where we were supposed to – we still never saw any of the landmarks we were supposed to see. Regardless it was a fun dive although we surfaced a bit away from the boat since we didn’t really know where we were.  We swam probably 75 meters back to the boat and hopped onboard ready for lunch.  Meat pies, sausage rolls, some mac and cheese, corn, and salad – delicious and we went back for some more mac and cheese.

After lunch it was time for relaxing – we had a few hours until our next dive.  Lora ended up going to take a nap and I listened to music on the sun deck (with my hat and shirt on and a few applications of sun screen of course).
